BEATON MAKES IT TWO FROM TWO AT MX NATIONALS 21 July 2010 Ross Beaton and Harley Quinlan racked up a 1-2 finish for the GYTR Rockstar Yamaha Team at round seven of the Rockstar MX Nationals held at Moree. The impressive results also saw the duo shoot up the leader board in the overall points’ standings with two rounds remaining.
Contesting the Under 19 championship in the National motocross title, the pair continued on with their impressive form at recent events and are charging home down the final straight of the 2010 motocross season.
Ross Beaton racked up his second round win in a row and closed the points gap back to an ‘edge of the seat’ 11markers separating Beaton from the championship lead. Beaton carved off another 15points at Moree on the back of his 2-1-3-3 race scores.
Beaton again out smarted and out rode his competitors to take the round victory and for the first time in his career, win two MX National events in a row. His race craft and confidence continue to grow by the lap and Beaton now races with a cool and calm head with a focus on getting the job done.
“I don’t really care what anybody else does or says. I just concentrate on what I have to do and ride the best I can every time I go on the track. I don’t feel the pressure of a championship and at the moment I am just enjoying the challenge of racing,” he explains.
“But it is always a good feeling to win and the GYTR Rockstar Yamaha Team has done another great job this weekend. The bike was working great and my mechanic Dan did an awesome job as always,” Beaton finishes.
Harley Quinlan continued his impressive charge up the standings and on the back of his second place at Moree, now sits an amazing third place overall in the championship points. His 3-4-2-2 results netted him 82points and second overall for the round. The Queenslander now climbs from sixth to third place in the championship despite not racing the first round due to injury.
“Being on the podium is great, but I am desperate to win one of these things. I rode pretty well today, I just thought it took me a couple of laps in each race to pick up my race pace. With a bit more sprint speed right from the drop of the gate, I reckon I might be able to make it happen,” Quinlan offers.
Shaun Redhead also turned in one off his better performances for the year finishing in eighth place for the round. Redhead looked on song early in the day posting good qualifying times and continued that into the four main races. His 10-6-10-12 finishes were hampered by bad starts, but he fought on bravely to take home a very respectable top 10 finish.
The teams’ Pro Lites rider, Luke Styke had a disappointing day in the office. A crash in moto two of the Pro Lites race whilst running second slowed things down, then being tagged from behind at the start of moto three saw Styke out for the race and nursing an injured shoulder. He gritted his teeth and completed the final moto but was in extreme pain. Despite the tough weekend, he still maintains seventh overall in the Pro Lites championship.
The final two rounds of the Rockstar MX Nationals take place this weekend at the Coolum Circuit on the Sunshine Coast. It is a huge double header weekend of racing that has six motos and 150 points up for grabs.
